We had to choose our favourite car/van of the show at this years Edition 38 show in Northampton as part of our sponsor ship deal with the guys at E38. I think you will agree a very popular choice and a really well deserved winner! Can’t wait to see what the guys bring to the table next year!

A brief photo diary of Carlos’s Green Machine

As many of you will know a couple of years ago G-Werks débuted one of its most popular offerings at Ultimate Dubs, the Audi TT. Few people had attempted to take the TT as far as some of the other more popular models and those that had didn’t always hit the mark. The Mk1 TT has such a recognisable, almost ‘concept car’ like shape to it we knew it could be turned in to something special. Now its up for sale again after changing hands a couple of times, each owner adding their own personal touches to it, we thought we’d look back at where it all began…

When the decision had been made that the TT would be the weapon of choice the next decision, and possibly the hardest, was to pick what colour would work best with the plans in mind. A few colours got thrown about, including what interior would work best but in the end there was only one choice, it had to be…Green. Yes, Green. Not the most obvious of choices but with one main influence in mind, which we will explain shortly, it was perfect and definitely different! The right car was found pretty quickly and not to far from HQ so we jump in the car to go check it out. After viewing it a price was agreed and the car was bought from its British Airways Pilot owner.

Once the car was back at base we immediately set about getting the car where it needed to be, and this was on the floor. KW Variant 1′s were the flavour of the day and once on and the car was as low as it could go we new the TT had been the right choice. It wasnt until we stumbled across a set of very sexy Mercedes Segin monoblock wheels though that once the rubber fitted and adapters bolted on we realised the rear was not where it needed to be…we could see daylight between the arch for god sake! So, off came the rear springs and the setup was examined and once worked out what we could get away with was tweaked, I think you’ll agree to perfection, or thereabouts…

The TT has a very round and smooth flowing design and wanting to keep the mods subtle and true to its original form the wing mirrors, side repeaters and rear spoiler were all removed and smoothed. Thats pretty much all that was done before its debut at Ultimate Dubs…

As with all modified cars, there are always more ideas and further steps to the perfect car and so naturally the mods didnt stop there. The rear end received a bit more attention with a shortened recess bumper as well as the exhaust cut outs removed and smoothed and LHD spec rear light to lose the reverse light. Oh, and of course it was plated with the perfect registration!

After a few shows in this guise Darren decided it was time to take the TT to the next level and as with everything didnt hang about in getting everything sorted. This time the interior was to get a full make over as well as some more exterior work, including a new set of rollers, which are a story in themselves!

We mentioned earlier about one main influence with the choice of the exterior colour, well this was to play its part in the interior colour scheme too. The influence came from Bernard Newbury’s Karmann Ghia which, for those old skool-ers among you will remember, ran a green exterior with a peppermint green leather interior. The 2 colours worked together perfectly and starting out in the Air Cooled side of life Darren knew this had to replicated with VAG’s modern offering of a 2 door coupe. The leather chosen for the interior was Porsche Netherite Green and once a sample was in hand the rest of the material was quickly sourced and put to one side…mainly because the seats hadnt even been decided on at this point! That didnt take long though and after a few conversations with a couple of close contacts the Audi RS6 Recaro’s were winging their way our way. A cage was sourced at the same time after deciding to remove the rear seats and smarten up the rear inside with a very tidy install. So with the seats, cage and install all trimmed in the Porsche hide, including the number plate, it was time to attend to the final finer details.

The front number plate recess was smoothed, the headlight washers smoothed, the wipers removed and the yellow indicator lenses in the headlights were replaced with smoked items. Oh, and it was fitted with a set of 19″ satin black Maybach wheels! The wheels were sourced through a Belgian contact and very good friend. All it took was 2 men, a cross channel visit, several hours and a couple of €uros before the wheels were on their way back to their new home. Ill let the pics do the talking…

This is pretty much how the car sat until it was sold on to make way for a new project but it stayed as one of the most influential TT’s in the ‘Scene’ and I think you’ll agree will go down in modified VAG hisTTory…
